Current Volunteering OpportunitiesVolunteering is a great way to experience the excitement! Please note: We have now filled all volunteer positions, with a waiting list. Thank you to everyone who has applied and we are making sure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to volunteer. Torch Relay and three hour celebration on February 10th, 2010Volunteers are needed to help drive and be available to hand items out to the crowds and cheer on the excitement ahead of the Torch Relay. There are also different volunteer positions during the 2-3 hour torch celebration that day at Lynn Valley Centre. These will be exciting positions as the Olympic Torch winds its way through North Vancouver for most of the day, and it's a great way to ensure a front row seat! Festival Areas, February 12th-28th, 2010Volunteers will be assisting in a variety of roles with ValleyFest in Lynn Valley Plaza, and Winterfest at Lonsdale Quay, North Vancouver. On February 12th, 2010, The Lynn Valley Village becomes an outdoor cafe and playground to reflect and celebrate the winter spirit and outdoor lifestyle of the North Shore, including entertainment, great food, a large outdoor television screen, and friendly people. Examples of volunteer duties include helping with school groups, children's arts and crafts, the discovery centre and hosts. Meanwhile, at Lonsdale Quay, Ambassadors/Hosts will be needed as it will be a key place of activity as a transportation hub. Requirements You must be at least 15 years of age to volunteer, commit to a minimum of 16-18 hours over the two week period, training as below, and submit a criminal record check. Training As a volunteer, it is mandatory that you participate in one of two kinds of training, depending upon your role: General Volunteers must take a two hour orientation.
